( IMPORTANT Oct 31 UPDATE at bottom of post – plse make sure to read)
Three commercial software firms have blown me away with the quality of their software, their support and service. ( IMPORTANT Oct 31 UPDATE at bottom of post – plse make sure to read)
They are AmiBroker (amazing stock charting analysis software).
Topaz Labs (their Photoshop plugin suite is great).
Most recently Google Nik Software with their Google Nik Collection (Photoshop plugins).
Apparently Google Nik Collection will auto update itself, if the host PC has an internet connection. The PC on which I do my photo editing is not connected to the internet. Less chance of getting a virus that way.
This morning I sent an email to Google Nik Software, asking about the new update.
Within 10 minutes I received a reply email with links to the new updated Google Nik Collection. My jaw dropped at the fast response.
I use the Nik Collection as plugins, but they can also be used as standalone programs.
Silver Efex Pro gets the most workout.
Sure I can do a B& W conversion using Channels (or a multitude of different ways), but it will not likely be any better than what I can get with Silver Efex Pro. The included presets also allow an instantaneous change to the look and feel of the B& W conversion. Huge time saver.
It is interesting that AmiBroker and Topaz Labs are comparatively small. I have come to expect way better service and support from smaller firms. Their growth depends on word of mouth referrals, to some extent.
Larger firm have built up momentum. As they grow, I have found sometimes service and support does not grow at the same rate.
That is why I am amazed at the service and support that I have received from Google Nik Software. Google is a huge company. The service provided so far has been top tier.
Their plugins are amazing. I am always glad to recommend them to anyone who wants to take their photo editing further (and I am not getting paid for posting this).
Click on the following to visit the Google Nik Collection website. You can download the trial version of Google Nik Collection from that page.
Click on the following to visit the Google Nik Software page on Google Plus. There is an ongoing discussion about the update.
If the PC on which you do you photo editing is connected to the internet, then Google Nik Collection should update itself.
If the download link that you had received from Google Nik Software is fairly new, then try using the same link again. If it still works, then you should get the newest version.
If your link has expired (like mine had), then just send an email to Google Nik Support by clicking on the Contact US button (top right of screen area) of their website (at the link noted above).
*** UPDATE OCT 31: *** Received a comment from Jane as follows:
“I believe this Nik Update to Photoshop elements 11 software is causing the Editor portion to not open. The message I get reads MSVCP110.dll is missing. Any thoughts on how to fix this?”
has a discussion about this. Per that page it seems that two Microsoft C++ DLLs are missing. That page also implies that the new Analog Efex plugin could be using those DLLs. Plse read that page.
Email Google Nik Support via the contact link on their website. That will inform them. I suspect a solution will be out in quick order, if it isn’t out already.
See also a post on Digital Picture DateTime: 10/31/2013 2:14:13 PM CT Posted By: Sean, which discusses a potential fix (with link to get the required C++ files) which was also mentioned by a number of people on the adobe forum.
